About This Event

Second Thought is a solo exhibition by Albuquerque based jeweler and metalsmith Will McConnell of Platoro Jewelry Studio, whose work explores transformation, craftsmanship, and the beauty of imperfection. The exhibition emerged from an unexpected moment in Will’s studio. After a project failed to go as planned, frustration led him to melt the silver into a pool of molten metal that eventually cooled into an irregular form. The discarded piece sat untouched for years before he revisited it in early 2025. What began as another act of frustration, taking a hammer to the silver blob, became the catalyst for a new creative direction and distinct body of work. With more than twenty years of silversmithing experience, McConnell draws inspiration from both New Mexico’s landscapes and the intersection of natural and human-made forms. His work reflects s fascination with contrast: organic textures alongside intentional design, refinement emerging from raw material, and beauty discovered through process. Join us for the Opening Reception on Thursday, June 18th from 5-8pm at Lapis Room, and experience a collection that reimagines what is discarded, honoring the flaws and imperfections that make each piece unique. The show remains on view through July 19th.
