About This Event
At Amapola Gallery in July, “New Mexico Times Two” showcases stunning New Mexico scenery as interpreted by oil painter Claudia Mitchell and watercolorist Carol Sparks.
Claudia Mitchell comes to us from Whidbey Island, Washington, and the Whidbey Island Fine Art Studio. Her move to the Sandia foothills has blessed her with both inspiration and challenge. Her paintings combine a newcomer’s expert eye with the richness of oils and the artist’s skill to create beautiful views of mountain trails, sweeping valleys and high desert scenery.
In contrast, Carol Sparks is a native of Albuquerque, showing her watercolors professionally for over thirty years. Carol is self-taught, learning by, as she says, “trying her hand.” Clever hand! She conveys unique New Mexico light through the transparency of watercolors. Her subjects, northern New Mexico landscapes and villages, viewed through long familiarity and fondness, glow and charm.
Mitchell’s and Sparks’ paintings—New Mexico in two translations—will be displayed at Amapola Gallery through July. You can meet the artists at their reception on Friday, July 3, from 4 to 6 pm.
