Dia de los Muertos Day of the Dead in Old Town Albuquerque 2024

On November 2nd, Old Town Albuquerque’s Plaza will transform into Plaza de los Recuerdos for one night to honor our loved ones during Día de los Muertos. We invite you to bring your own ofrenda (altar) and be part of this community remembrance.

How to Reserve a Space to Display an Ofrenda:

  1. Sign Up: We have 71 spots available. The first 71 people to register will receive a space. To reserve your spot, please complete our online registration form.
  2. Reservation Details:
    • Ofrenda (altar) spaces are at least 6ftx6ft and are generally much larger.
    • Set up your ofrenda starting at 8am on November 1st, and it will be on display through November 3rd.
    • Your ofrenda must be respectful and reflect the spirit of Día de los Muertos, with photos, mementos, and traditional elements. We encourage highly decorated ofrendas to enhance the beauty and spirit of the celebration.
  3. Guidelines:
    • LED candles encouraged, open flame candles allowed only on the evening of Nov 2nd;
    • Ofrendas must align with the cultural significance of the celebration.
    • We are not responsible for lost or damaged items. We highly recommend bringing copies of original photos and items.
    • Please remove your ofrenda by 4pm on Sunday, November 3rd.
  4. Candlelight Procession: Join us at 9pm on November 2nd for a Candlelight Procession from the San Felipe de Neri Church parking lot, ending at Plaza de los Recuerdos.

Important Dates:

  • Reservation deadline: Nov 2nd or until spaces fill up.
  • Set-up day: November 1st, starting at 8am
  • Ofrenda (altar) display: All day November 2nd
  • Candlelight Procession: November 2nd, 9pm
  • Take-down deadline: November 3rd, by 4pm
